The Top 10 most popular regions on Airbnb in 2021

Like every year, the American juggernaut Airbnb uses data from its services to provide indicators on international tourism. With the second part of summer 2021 underway, Airbnb has published a first list of the 10 most profitable regions on its site and then published an estimate for the second part of the season, from August to September.

Beginning of summer 2021: The Var is the most profitable department

Despite a particularly turbulent context since 2020 with recurring epidemic waves and government regulations intended to contain the epidemic of Covid-19 and its variants, tourism in France is maintaining a comfortable level of activity at the start of summer 2021. The trends that were emerging in 2020 have been confirmed and although a much smaller number of foreigners are targeting France as a holiday destination, many French people are giving up crossing borders, favoring tourism in mainland France for the summer of 2021.

This is not without bringing its share of disturbances and surprises on the first figures for tourism in France in 2021. To this end, Airbnb has drawn up a list of the 10 most profitable departments on its platforms for the beginning of summer 2021 :

  1. Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur,
  2. Vaucluse, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur,
  3. Pyrénées-Atlantiques, New Aquitaine,
  4. Charente-Maritime, New-Aquitaine,
  5. Gironde, New Aquitaine,
  6. Alpes-Maritimes, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur,
  7. Herault, Occitania,
  8. Gard, Occitania,
  9. Morbihan, Brittany,
  10. Finistère, Brittany.

This list draws up a first observation: the Ile de France departments do not appear in the ranking and show the particular interest of the French for less urban destinations and, conversely, favoring large spaces. The Var is doing well and is positioned in 1st place among the most profitable regions in France, followed by Vaucluse and the Pyrénées-Atlantiques which are respectively in 2nd and 3rd position in this ranking.

The best departments for seasonal rental at the end of summer:

Airbnb does not stop at this first observation and then draws up a second list for us, dedicated to projections for the end of summer 2021 in terms of profitability on its platform. We can thus see the arrival of new departments in this top 10 such as Doubs, Tarn and Aveyron, also synonymous with large areas rather than large urban centers.

  1. The Doubs
  2. Tarn
  3. The Alpes-Maritimes
  4. The Alpes-de-Haute-Provence
  5. The Bouches-du-Rhône
  6. Aveyron
  7. The Hautes-Alpes
  8. Jura
  9. The Hautes-Pyrénées
  10. Gard

If the Doubs which is positioned in first place and the Jura which joins this top 10 come to represent the colors of the northern half of France, we note that the other privileged departments of the French for this second part of summer 2021 are located in south of the map, travelers visibly putting all the chances on their side to end the summer under the sun and enjoy a climate renowned for its mildness and low rainfall at this time of year.
