The MIPIM Awards, the Oscars of real estate

A real event within the show, the MIPIM Awards are back in 2023. This internationally renowned real estate competition rewards the best projects completed or under construction around the world. The jury is chaired this year by François Trausch, Chairman of the Management Board and Chairman of the Executive Committee of Allianz Real Estate and is made up of several international personalities also from the real estate sector.

The jury therefore selected 43 projects from 22 countries to participate in the final of the most prestigious competition in the international real estate sector. We find among all the selected projects six French: Deloitte University EMEA (Val d'Europe), Havlog (Le Havre), Morland Mixité Capitale (Paris), BIOME (Paris), Metal 57 (Boulogne-Billancourt), and Confluence – B1 C1 North (Lyon). France is also the most represented country in the selection, ahead of China and Germany (4 projects each).

The winners will be determined thanks to the votes of the jury but also thanks to the MIPIM participants who will have the opportunity to vote on site in Cannes or online. The jury will also award its “Special Jury Prize” to reward its favorite project. The selection criteria remain unchanged: the MIPIMs are based on criteria of innovation, ecology, architecture, integration and impact on the community.

This year, the jury also focused on the ESG approach of the projects, MIPIM being keen to support the transformation of the real estate sector towards a more sustainable model. The projects were selected on the basis of six criteria: environmental qualities, the integration of the project into its environment and its community, quality of the user experience, economic contribution, originality of the concept, and finally its architectural qualities.

Among the different categories, some will reward finalized projects (Best office project, Best cultural, sports and educational project, Best tourism and leisure project, Best urban renewal project, etc.), others, on the other hand, will reward projects still in development. The winners, chosen in 12 categories jointly by the vote of the jury and that of the MIPIM participants, will be announced during the MIPIM Awards ceremony on March 16 at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.

"The MIPIM Awards are to real estate what the Cannes Film Festival is to cinema," says Hanane Amimi, director of the YourHostHelper concierge service in Cannes.
